The healthy 3-ingredient banana oat cookies are exactly what you need when those sweet cravings hit. You can mix them up in a matter of 2 minutes and they'll be ready to eat after 10 minutes in the oven!
These cookies are naturally sweet and packed with wholesome oats. Perfect for a quick snack, a grab-and-go breakfast, or just a little treat whenever you need it.
Key ingredients and substitutions
- Bananas: Choose spotty ripe bananas to bring a natural sweetness to the cookies. The riper the bananas, the sweeter the cookies will be.
- Oats: You can use both rolled oats or quick-cooking (porridge) oats for this recipe. Old-fashioned rolled oats will give the cookies a bite more chew, while quick oats will make them softer. For a gluten-free snack, just use your favorite gluten-free oats.
- Chocolate chips: Use any chocolate chips you like (I'm all about those vegan dark chocolate chips) or chop up a bar of dark chocolate for that melty chocolate goodness.
Step-by-step instructions
- Step 1: Mash the banana with a fork or simply use an immersion blender (it's even quicker). If you choose the fork method, I recommend mashing it on a flat surface, such as a plate or a cutting board.
- Step 2: Combine. Add the oats and chocolate chips to the bowl with the mashed banana. Stir until well-combined.
- Step 3: Shape the cookies. I use a cookie spoon to portion out the dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Press them into thick disks for chewy cookies. The dough may still be a little runny, which is totally normal—the cookies will firm up during baking.
- Step 4: Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes until firm and golden. Optionally, sprinkle some sea salt on top. Enjoy warm, fresh from the oven, or let them cool for later.
